Small forward Corey Brewer has agreed to a contract buyout with the Los Angeles Lakers, and after clearing waivers is expected to sign with the Thunder, per Woj:
Corey Brewer is likely to sign with the Oklahoma City Thunder upon clearing waivers on Friday, league sources tell ESPN. Brewer agreed to a contract buyout with the Lakers today.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) March 1, 2018
The Thunder have struggled since losing defensive anchor Andre Roberson injury, and many have speculated that Sam Presti would act once free agency ended. If Wojnarowski’s sources are correct, Brewer could be suiting up in OKC orange and blue before they take on the Trail Blazers this Saturday.
Brewer’s potential signing is most notable for his college ties to then Florida Gator head coach Billy Donovan. Together, Brewer helped win back-to-back championships, along side NBA veterans Al Horford and Joakim Noah. The nine year veteran, who was drafted by the Timberwolves and spent two separate stints in Minnesota, has also played for the Rockets and Lakers.
Brewer is currently averaging 3.7 PPG, 1.7 RPG, and 0.8 AST in just over 12 minutes of action per game. His best season was the 2013-14 year in Minnesota, when he averaged 12-3-2 on 48% shooting.
We will follow the story as it develops.
