Woj on the Thunder’s plans for Paul George before the NBA trade deadline

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski takes a look at the Thunder’s deadline situation.

The NBA’s Trade Deadline is a month away, and the wire isn’t necessarily hot at the moment. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski gave an outlook on the overall market earlier today, and the Thunder were mentioned as a team of interest.

OKC came up in Woj’s “untouchables” category, with future free agent Paul George being the main focus.

Before the trade deadline, there are two answers that OKC GM Sam Presti probably won’t get from George and his agent, Aaron Mintz:

1. Yes, I plan to re-sign.

2. No, I plan to leave.

Which is exactly what Presti expected when the Thunder traded for George: This would be a season-long process, and there was always significant risk/reward in the trade that sent Victor Oladipo and Domantas Sabonis to Indiana.

He points out that the Thunder are set on playing out this season with George, despite his offseason status remaining unknown. The defensive player of the year candidate hasn’t given many hints regarding his future, much to the displeasure of Sam Presti. Of course, OKC’s GM would love to have an answer of whether or not George plans to re-sign, but this was expected when he traded for the all-star.
