Thunder vs Grizzlies preview: will OKC’s next step be forward or backward?

New, comments

The Grizzlies haven’t exactly gotten off to a great start, either.

NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder at Memphis Grizzlies Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

The Thunder are back in action tonight in Memphis after a detour via Mexico City. I’m sure the city itself was a fine place to visit for the Thunder gang, but their on-court performance was anything but. Now OKC is back to being 2 games under .500 and will look to reestablish some momentum.

The Thunder are looking to snap an 8 game losing streak on the road; they have not won a game away from the ‘Peake since October, over a month ago. If their quarter-to-quarter focus is a primary culprit to their chances to win games, that focus appears to be even more compromised when they are on an opponent’s home court.

However, the Grizzlies’ season is an arguably worse experiment in disappointment, as they have lost 13 of their last 14 games, their team leader in Mike Conley to injury, and have fired their coach David Fizdale. But while their season thus far has been frustrating, they always play tough in front of their home crowd.

Paul George, absent vs the Nets due to injury, is expected to be a game time decision. But regardless of whether he or Jerami Grant lace up tonight, OKC needs to show greater focus and discipline if they are to win tonight, because has they have demonstratively shown, no team is too poor to stage a double-digit comeback against the Thunder. Tonight is yet another opportunity to turn the page on that chapter.
