OKC Thunder Podcast: Loud Noises - Episode 39; Joffrey, Russell and Rocky, Oh My!

New, comment

Jeff Morton of SB Nation's Denver Stiffs returns to the show to give OKC fans the lowdown on newest acquisition, Joffrey Lauvergne. Plus, parallels between Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, the challenge of recruiting free agents, and the Russ vs. Rocky rivalry.

My initial reaction when I found out about the Thunder’s trade for Joffrey Lauvergne was, “Yeah, and what else?” That seemed to be the general consensus given that the move gave the Thunder 16 players when you can only have 15.

Still, outside of a sweet name, Joffrey is a competent NBA basketball player (so I’m told) so I wanted to talk to someone that followed him as closely as anyone during his first two years in the league.

Jeff Morton from Denver Stiffs is back on the podcast for a second time, under strikingly similar circumstances to his first appearance. The only difference between then and now is we are talking about Joffrey Lauvergne instead of Randy Foye. And it’s September instead of February.

I like talking to Jeff because he’s a well-connected guy that talks to plenty of important people and has a genuine feel for the league. Our conversation went all sorts of fun places, including possible parallels between Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony, just how real the rivalry between Russ and Rocky the Denver Mascot truly is, the Nuggets’ lack of rivals, the Thunder’s potential as a sleeper team in the West, and Kevin Durant’s Rick James tattoo.

Oh, and if you haven’t realized already, I get really excited about any opportunity to talk about food, so this week’s Off-Topic 10 features plenty of food talk, as well as a reveal of my favorite album of all time.

As always, you can subscribe to the Loud Noises Podcast on iTunes, Google Play and Stitcher and while you're there, leave a review.
