Where They At: Thunder
The Thunder are at oof. KD is done for the season and getting a scary third surgery on that foot. The Jazz shut down OKC's blazing hot offense, and the Pelicans and Suns are still within striking distance of pulling the 8 seed out from the Thunder for one final gut punch to finish the series of unfortunate events that has been 2014/15.
But the Thunder are still fighting, and barring games against super teams (San Antonio), still able to put together at least a good offensive or defensive effort with their makeshift roster. And Russell Westbrook: still awesome. But the Thunder injury curse is also still in effect--Dion Waiters sat the second half in Utah with foot pain, and is reportedly hunting an MRI.
Where They At: Suns
Phoenix, like New Orleans, has its playoff hopes on life support, down 3 games to OKC and unable to prove itself as much better than a .500 team. While Phoenix can't put it together for long stretches, they have recently beaten the Rockets and Mavericks, and their season is on the line with this game. Lose to the Thunder, and they're down 4 with 8 games to go--not to mention needing to leapfrog the Pelicans. Brandon Knight has been missing games, but he might be returning to the lineup tonight.
The Matchup:
The second night of a back-to-back is usually tough, and the Thunder have struggled to reign in the Suns offense before the Thunder got defensive amnesia over the last few weeks. I think if Knight is back, the Thunder's perimeter "defense" won't be able to hang, and the odds of a firebomb team performance on offense it would take to win are lower for the less-rested road team.
Prediction: Phoenix 118 Oklahoma City 109
