The story of the past week was Russell Westbrook leading the Thunder into a seemingly assured playoff spot, without Kevin Durant. Russ has even garnered some MVP talk. Before Oklahoma City lost back to back road games in Phoenix and Portland (whom it seems locked up the division in the process), the Thunder had lost just once in February.
The only thing keeping them from running away with the 8th seed in the West is the revitalized Pelicans. New Orleans has won five straight, without Anthony Davis, Ryan Anderson, and Jrue Holiday, to close within 1/2 game of Oklahoma City. Once Davis and friends, along with the Thunder's dynamic duo return, the race for the 8th spot should be very entertaining.
The Spurs closed out a disastrous week strong with road wins over Phoenix and Sacramento. Their lead had dropped, at one point, to just 2 1/2 games ahead of Oklahoma City, and were riding a 4 game losing streak. San Antonio was certainly expected to beat the lowly Kings, but they definitely looked more like the Spurs of old, while destroying the Suns on the road 101-74.
