Report: Kevin Durant to be named 2013-2014 NBA MVP

After seven years of "being No. 2," Kevin Durant will reportedly be named NBA MVP for the first time in his career.

ESPN's Marc Stein had the initial report, saying that the announcement is likely to come "early next week."

With the Thunder set to host the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday and Wednesday in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, the announcement is likely to come in that timeframe.

The news is hardly a surprise, as it has been widely assumed Durant would claim the award after a historic season.

Durant claimed his fourth scoring title, averaging a career-best 32.01 points per game. He also pulled down 7.4 rebounds per game and finished with a career-high 5.5 assists per game, making him just the fourth player ever to record 32/7/5 over the course of a season.

His 29.8 PER and .295 WS/48 also led the league.

Even Durant's defense improved and earned him praise as well, as he finished 10^th in the league in defensive win shares.

The award is also the first of its kind for the Oklahoma City franchise, dating back to its days in Seattle.

Durant and the Thunder will host the Clippers on Monday night at 8:30 PM CST at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
