Via the OKCThunderFans Forums and DailyThunder:
In a move that comes as no surprise, the Thunder have cut their training camp roster to 18, leaving Hollis Thompson, Andy Rautins, Daniel Orton, and DeAndre Liggins to fight for the last roster spot. Right now, the leader in that battle is DeAndre Liggins, who has seen time in 4 of the Thunder's 5 pre-season games. This includes last night, where he was the only Training Camp invitee to get time.
Walker Russell only saw minutes in one of the Thunder's pre-season games, against Charlotte. He ran the point in that game and did an admirable job, but it was hard to gauge his true worth because he was playing deep in the fourth quarter of a rout, mostly with other scrubs. He was pretty quick and good at getting to the line, but again, with such a small sample size, it's hard to tell. He was probably just signed to be a fourth point guard during practice.
The Thunder have the option of signing him to the Tulsa 66ers, as they did with many of the washouts from the 2011 and 2010 Pre-Season. Indeed, Russell was a regular contributor to the Mad Ants last year. But since he's 30 and the Thunder have enough point guards, it's hard to tell where he'll go. But we all wish him the best of luck.
