UGLY LOSS! L.A. Clips Thunder 107-104

uglyloss

There is no other description that really can sum up this game quite like "UGLY LOSS." But before I jump into anything else, I have to complain a little bit about Scott Brooks play selection in the final few seconds. The Thunder, down 3, inbounded the ball to Nick Collison, who was immediately fouled and sent to the line. Now, if we were down by 4, I can understand a bit better the hit 1 free throw, and intentionally miss to go for the game tying shot. We were only down by 3 though, and Durant was scoring at will all night, why in the world wouldn't Brooksy come up with a play to free Durant (or Green or Westbrook) on the perimeter for a catch and shoot and at least give the team a chance at tying the ballgame? Frustrating to say the least, and the Thunder settle for a disappointing 107-104 loss against a team that was just decimated by injuries and had only two players available off the bench most of the game.

Star-divide

Outside of Kevin Durant, the Thunder just played uninspired basketball tonight, sloppy play, lots of turnovers, and way too many bad looks, and bad shots. Kevin Durant had the highest scoring output of his young career tonight finishing with 46 points, and 15 boards, and set a new record for free throws made in a game, a record that would have been good enough to even surpass the Sonics old record. Despite the great game from K-Smoove, its a night he'll try to forget as the Thunder travel back home and take a weekend off from live games before taking on the New Jersey Nets, back home in Loud City on Monday Night.

You have to hand it to the Clippers for not only being competitive in this game, but winning this game, and playing with heart and determination all night. This team was just destroyed by injuries and guys like Rookie Eric Gordon (41 points), and Al Thornton (34 Points) came up HUGE all night for the Clippers scoring a combined 75 of LA's 107 points. I think during the game they said the Clippers had something like $58 Million worth of Salary unavailable for the game. Insanity. Props to the Clips for their effort tonight, but as a Thunderhead, its a tough loss to swallow.

Disappointing… Not only because our expectations were higher because of the way they’ve been playing, but how short-handed the Clippers were last night as well. We move on though. We have a good Nets team, the Grizz, and a very good Jazz team ahead of us next week.

Exactly. With the Clippers having gone 1-14 in their last 15, and the Thunders terrific (in comparison) play in January, this was definitely a game I expected the Thunder to handle business in.

…then when you factor in the Clips only dressed 8 players, and one of those got hurt after just 4 minutes of game time, you really would expect us to win that game. Even after a terrible third quarter, I expected the Thunder to pull away in the 4th as I figured the Clippers would start to wear down.

Disappointing Indeed.
