D-League Tulsa 66ers Game Experience
We're kind of embarrassed to admit that although we've been to around 10 Thunder games this season, we haven't been to a single 66ers game...EVER. So thanks again to Robert over at the Spirit Bank Event Center for getting us down there for the game last night. The Spirit Bank Event Center itself is a really cool venue for a lot of reasons, for basketball, and otherwise. For the Sixers, its an absolutely awesome value, because there is not a bad seat in the house, not one. Of course its quite a bit different than going to a ballgame at the Ford Center, but one of the really cool things about the small size is the intimate quality of the game, and I'm sure Rio Grande Valley's Alpha Bangura can attest to that as we were screaming and taunting him for nearly the whole game. Its pretty cool when you spend the game screaming at a player and he finally turns and looks for the idiot screaming at him, which he did at one point tonight. Its beside the point that he finished with 20 points and came up clutch at the end of the game to close out the Vipers 104-100 win over the 66ers.
As far as the team is concerned, watching the 66ers was almost an all too familiar feeling, in fact very much like watching the Thunder near the beginning of the season. They played miserably early, trailed by 25 in the 3rd quarter, and came all the way back and had a chance to win or force overtime with under a minute left in the game. Combine the great 4th quarter effort with the $2 Beer, and $1 hotdogs, and you really couldn't ask for much more, except maybe a little better turnout.
So if you're ever looking for something to do instead of the usual, take a look at the 66ers schedule and check out a home game when you get the chance. You'll have a total blast and be able to get some really unbelievable near court side tickets for pretty cheap, and you'll have a great time. Here are a couple of pics from last night.
