Thabo Sefolosha unsure if he remains in OKC next season

Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports

We take a look at Thabo's role and how it's changed over the past couple of years.

With Scott Brooks being non-committal about Kendrick Perkins, it seems that key changes will occur in the Thunder. Thabo Sefolosha will be experiencing unrestricted free agency, and was asked whether he thinks that he will return to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the next season.

‘’I have no clue, I am going to have to take some time to think about a lot of things and see the options and take it from there ‘’ Sefolosha said

Let's take a look at Sefolosha's stats in the 2012-2013 season and 2013-2014 season.

What we can conclude from the following table is that Sefolosha's stats didn’t change that much. But his shooting efficiency decreased, as well as his 3-point percentage, field goal %, and points per game.

Regarding his 3-point percentage, it fell down around 10% or even a bit more being compared to his previous 2012-13 season, and his field overall from 48.1% to 41.5%. This marks a negative influence on the team, and keeps Durant and Westbrook under a lot of pressure offensively. The team lacks an impactful position in shooting guard.

Sefolosha wasn't that bad in the Western Semi-Finals, but his performance was extremely poor in the Conference Finals. This resulted in him joining the bench after the Thunder game 1 and 2 loss against the Spurs. Moreover, he played for 8 minutes in game 5 only, and 0 minutes in game 3, 4, and 6.

‘’It was very frustrating, very frustrating. It’s never easy. I would say the last month has been a little frustrating. I am happy to see the team win, but obviously it’s definitely not the way we wanted to end the season. It’s just tough. You’ve got a lot of questions like, why and what is the thought process behind it? Things like that. You just stick with the plan, stick with your teammates. But definitely it’s frustrating at times ‘’ Sefolosha said when asked about his postseason, and being benched

Versus the Spurs in game 1 and 2, Sefolosha averaged 0 points, 0 assists, 0 blocks, two rebounds, and two steals while shooting 0-5 from the field, and 0-3 from behind the arc. Therefore, Brooks had no option other than substituting him and playing the emerging point guard Reggie Jackson. This type of a player absolutely doesn’t fit around Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. Therefore, the Thunder administration or Sam Presti should make some changes that would bolster the offense of the Thunder.

In my opinion, I think this season was the the last season for Sefolosha. He had enough time of playing with the Thunder, and its probably time to leave.

‘’ It was a great time, and I am happy about the time here and we’ll see what the future holds ‘’ Sefolosha said lastly

Generally, Thabo Sefolosha is a good player, and he is a great defensive shooting guard, but the lack of his offensive outcome in the following year, favors Jackson on him who had been developing as a valuable scorer for the Thunder, and who is most likely to be a starter in the next season.
