Beyond The Arc: OKC Thunder weekly team awards for Feb. 6 - Feb 12

USA TODAY Sports

Time to hand out some hardware to the boys from Loud City for the week that was February 6th through February 12th.

The tone of this week's round of awards is a lot different after the loss to the Utah Jazz. Thunder were doing very spectacular things against very unspectacular teams this past week. We will hit on the overall performance of the team from the past week a little later but we start this week where we always start.

Buffy Summers Award (Team MVP) - Russell Westbrook

The emotional Thunder point guard earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors as he averaged 21.25 points, 3 rebounds, and 5.5 assists. You know what was really interesting when looking back at Westbrook's stats? He has made exactly 8 field goals in his last five games. Pretty sure that has no deeper meaning or insight into his game. But it is odd, right?

Tom Haverford Award (Best Supporting Player) - Thabo Sefolosha

Does dropping 18 and 20 points in back to back games really count when it comes vs. the Suns? Answer is yes if you are Sefolosha. In the two games vs. the Suns this week Thabo went 9-13 from the three point line. That is the best way for Sefolosha to contribute to the Thunder's offense. In this offense being able to hit spot up threes is huge for Sefolosha.

Thunder Player Who Should Be In Dunk Contest - Reggie Jackson

People love small guards in the dunk contest. Hello Nate Robinson 2.0. Minus the crap ton of tattoos, green shoes and, 45 dunk attempts. I love how Jackson is always looking to throw down on someone any chance he gets. The dunk contest needs that. I understand that Jeremy Evans won it last year so he has to defend his title and Kenneth Faried has a cool ass nickname. But for my money you can never have too many small point guards with ups in the dunk contest.

Most In Need Of A Valentine's Card - Eric Maynor

I mean, this was one of the easiest awards to hand out. I do feel bad for Maynor and what has happened to his playing time in OKC. I am hoping that for his sake the Thunder are able to move him at the deadline. He does still have value and last I checked the Boston Celtics were going through point guards like I Lindsay Lohan goes through bottles of vodka.

Prometheus Award (Disappointment of the Week) - Utah Jazz Implosion

For the first time I can remember this season, the Thunder looked frustrated on the court and they lost their composure during a game. The frustration level peaked when Durant picked up a technical and flagrant foul in the same play after a foul on Alec Burks. The Thunder did not react or adapt well to the physical play of the game. I would not call this game a full meltdown by the Thunder but based on how well they have been playing of late this game stings because early in the 3rd quarter they still had a chance to steal a victory.

Walter White Empire Scale: 6 (Last Week: 7)

Thunder drop a spot this week mainly due to the performance in Utah. I understand that Salt Lake is a tough road venue to play in and all but OKC had a chance to win this game. They were down six points with 6:52 left in the 3rd quarter. That was plenty of time to get back in the game. Thunder waited to long to switch to a smaller line up to try to exploit a mismatch vs. the Jazz front court that was dominate the game. Beating the Warriors and the Suns twice by 20+ points this past week was really impressive. But that is what this Thunder team should be doing. Not just beating the bad teams but dominating them. The Jazz are a bad team that is playing with many guys on the bench due to injury. These are the games that hurt you when it comes to getting the top seed in the Western Conference and home court throughout the playoffs.
