I have never seen the Thunder play better than what they have shown us over the last 15 games. Our defense is unreal, and the pace makes it tough for any team by the 4th quarter. I think it is safe to say that OKC is right at the top in terms of speed and athletic endurance. Above all, we are playing as a team, and while that may be a cliché, it isn't in this instance. It is like watching a machine. We can pull and replace players and the machine keeps firing. Our depth is for real.
Last night's game was a full blown assault. I've seen very few games where the ball moved so rapidly. We weren't just making the extra pass, the ball movement was blindingly fast from player to player, and these were tough passes. We aren't making silly turnovers anymore, and our rebounding is awesome.
With KD at the top of his game, Westbrook becoming far more efficient, and Serge now finding his role as a scorer, we just have too many weapons. The one wildcard, our bench, has been surprisingly fantastic.
Reggie is developing into a monster, and whatever we lost when we had to trade Harden has been fully replaced at the least. I just checked Reggie's salary, and he is probably the cheapest new superstar in the league. Yep, he is that good. Adams is also a player. We are for real throughout our roster.
I remember when Westbrook was first finding his game, a few year's ago, and I made a post about how he was sure earning his paycheck. We are now seeing something special again with Reggie's play. He is setting himself up for a max contract offer when his rookie contract expires, and if I could wave a magic wand, I would give him an extra couple million this year just to be fair.
Presti is a fantastic GM, and the money-ball, analytic-type tactics that the Thunder organization uses to pick and develop players is obviously working. I shake my head and wonder why a team like the Lakers or Knicks can't do the same thing. The wealthy teams can just go buy high priced free agents, and it just isn't that easy, as we can see from looking at the records of teams like that. Basketball is a team sport.
Will we ever be in a better position to win a ring than now? All of the components are in place. We have a roster that is stacked with talent, and play a team-first style of basketball that makes us bigger than the sum of the parts. Our top of the league rebounding is an indicator of how efficient our defense is.
Right here, right now. We have everything in place. Last night's game against the Spurs was so solid and blindingly fast that it was mind blowing. If we can keep up that type of play, nobody has a chance. Ten years from now everyone will look back and remember this year's team.
There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't win it all this year. As a team, we are fully loaded. Everyone is playing well and the system is obviously working. I've never seen the ball move faster than last night against the Spurs. OKC is officially in the middle of something special. Now go win that ring.
