Saturday Summarize: The Thunder focusing on rebounding and finding another center

Mark D. Smith-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

In the first installation of the Saturday Summarize, we discuss finding a fit center, injuries, and players fighting for starting jobs.

Before we begin, this in a new thing here at Welcome to Loud City called the "Saturday Summarize", where on every Saturday we post about the big topics of the past week. I'm Jameson Draper, the guy who did the Throwback Thursday posts during the offseason, but this is my duty and privilege throughout the NBA season. Go Thunder!

--------------------------------------------------------------

-Although training camp has just begun this week, Thunder coach Scott Brooks is already looking for an adequate center for the preseason games, since starter Kendrick Perkins is out with a wrist injury. The likely candidates are Hasheem Thabeet, Cole Aldrich and Daniel Orton. It was a mystery on who the front runner was until earlier in the week when coach Scott Brooks told the media he was leaning towards Aldrich only because he's not quite familiar with Thabeet and Orton yet. Coach Brooks also said he might "throw in Nick [Collison] or Ibaka in there" at center to help the Thunder.

-Thabo Sefolosha suffered a deep thigh bruise, but is recovering from it nicely and should be fine.

-Eric Maynor and Reggie Jackson are tussling for the back up point guard spot. Eric Maynor only played 7 games last season before tearing his right ACL (that's why OKC signed Derek Fisher). When comparing Maynor and Jackson's rookie numbers, Maynor's look a lot better but with such a great showing in the Orlando Summer League, Jackson may earn the spot.

-Although OKC was fifth last year in total rebounds, their offensive rebounding numbers were still pretty bad so Scott Brooks worked a lot on rebounding with big men in the first few days of camp.
