Game Thread #15: Oklahoma City Thunder vs Washington Wizards

Oklahoma City Thunder at Washington Wizards, Jan 18, 2012 6:00 PM CST

Photo

The Thunder take on the Wizards tonight in the nation's capital. Lest you forget, a year ago around this time the Wizards took the Thunder into overtime, so they have the ability to put up points. It will be incumbent on the Thunder defense to keep John Wall, Nick Young, and company in check in order to earn win #13.

Please be sure to stop by SB Nation's Wizards site Bullets Forever when you have a moment.

I’m sure you did it subconsciously, but you stole my “space-time continuum” meme from that boston game thread. lol

sorry mate!

I guess it was too perfect that I simply absorbed it, osmosis-like.

Truthfully, I have no original ideas of my own so I just take everybody else’s!

So who saw

in the Oklahoman today the bit about the reason we wore home jerseys against boston? Turns out, Boston asked the league to wear their green uni’s for MLK day. Rather than my space-time continuum theory, the league probably has a rule about one team having to wear white. But I’m guessing on that.

Not to the Wizards

The Wizards only had ONE WIN before tonight. ONE WIN! You cannot let that happen if you’re going to be champs. This game and the Bos game (where we lucked out) showed that this team will not win until they learn to be consisten on offense (i.e., quit taking so many jumpers) and rebound. I am so ashamed of the Thunder tonight

by das06h on Jan 18, 2012 8:39 PM CST up reply actions

Hahahaha

Ok, whatever you say. If you’re going to base everything you think off of the record of the opposing team rather than the game that they played then you deserve what you get. I’m not saying Washington played like a great team but they played well enough to beat us on a stinker night. Congrats to them, these things happen to all teams. If you’re ready to mail it in for the Thunder after two less than stellar performances landed them with a 12-3 record well then have fun with that.

it happens though to every team. Just this year, the Lakers lost to the Kings, the Bulls lost to the Warriors, and the Heat lost to the Warriors too. Last year, the Heat lost a number of head-scratching games, including 1 to the league-worst Cavs.

It makes sense over the course of a season, but it doesn’t make the reality any less maddening as you’re watching your team go down to the league’s worst.

www.welcometoloudcity.com

by J.A. Sherman on Jan 18, 2012 9:08 PM CST up reply actions

Lighten up brother.

Nobody is saying that OKC doesn’t have flaws that it needs to work out but this year there isn’t that one team that doesn’t have flaws that they need to work on.

Kobe is on track to set a record in usage % which is pretty much because he’s been a one man team up until now.
The Heat still can’t finish games.
Chicago does the same thing we do and plays down to the level of all their opponents and they are already showing wear and tear.

OKC is far from perfect and games like this are going to happen but they have as good of a chance as anyone right now.

What kool-aid are you drinking

and can I have some. This game is a statement to the Thunder’s inconsistency, lack of rebounding, defensive play, and energy that’s going to bite them in the playoffs if they can’t get it fixed

by das06h on Jan 18, 2012 8:40 PM CST up reply actions

No kidding.

Note that I said, we played worse than poop. BUT, and that’s a big BUT, we never gave up during the final minutes, even when we were down by 8 with less than a minute to go. We had a shot at tieing this game because we didn’t give up. Our execution, energy, rebounding, defense, hell, everything was horrible tonight. But the Thunder didn’t throw a hissy fit, and they kept trying. That’s all I’m saying.

I didn’t say he wasn’t….but you don’t brag about “limiting” someone to 8 points in a quarter. You could say, “You forced him into 7 Turnovers” or “You held him to 2-10 from three point range”, but “Limiting him to 8 points”? That’s just silly.

John Hollinger puts tonight and the glaring problem of our season in a nutshell

This was what I wrote about day after Boston game … OKC was getting Ws but they weren’t sharp. Biting them tonight.

by das06h on Jan 18, 2012 8:50 PM CST reply actions

defensive rebounding seems to be the real culprit

it hurts OKC doubly b/c it gives the other team 2nd chances while reducing the Thunder’s defensive efficiency. Long term though they should be ok, b/c they have the same personnel they had last season when they were much more dominant on the boards. But they have to correct this glaring problem to eliminate these kinds of lackadaisical games.

There’s a basic formula for lesser teams to follow if they want to beat good teams – get offensive rebounds, and get to the FT line. The Wiz did a good job of both tonight (19 OREB, 31-43 from FT), even if they were kind of all over the place offensively.

www.welcometoloudcity.com

by J.A. Sherman on Jan 18, 2012 8:55 PM CST up reply actions

The Wiz were ok

but not outstanding in that dept – 8-21. They weren’t scorching the nets from long range. OKC just couldn’t keep McGee off the offensive boards. It was particularly troublesome how WSH kept getting tip-outs off of missed FT’s. That’s just a basic concentration thing.
