Trade Idea with Magic
With all the rumors surrounding Dwight Howard recently, I decided to play around on the trade machine a bit. I came up with this one. This is just an idea, not a rumor, so tell me what you think.
The Trade
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3rndduh
Thunder receive: Howard
Magic receive: Westbrook, Perkins, Aldrich, Sefelosha
This can be changed of course (throw in a player, take out a player), but would you guys do this trade?
Why the Thunder do it:
The Thunder would be receiving the best center in the NBA. Howard would turn them into legit contenders for years to come. He is still very young at 25, but also very experienced. He is full of playoff experience and can turn the Thunder into a premier defensive team. A frontcourt of Durant, Ibaka, and Howard would be dominating combination for the next decade. Moving Westbrook would allow Harden to become a starter and would give Robinson and Maynor some playing time.
Why the Magic do it:
The Magic would be looking to get the best talent in return in a Dwight deal and a young All-Star, a defensive center, and other young pieces would be a great package. They would be trading a franchise player for a franchise player in a sense. Trading Howard would most likely mean rebuilding and this would be a good start.
Why the Thunder wouldn't do it:
At 22, Westbrook is still very young and has all the time to grow and mature. He's had his problems (i.e. shooting too much) but that is no reason to trade him. Durant and him have already made the Thunder contenders and in a couple of years possibly the best team in the NBA. Trading Westbrook would be putting that in jepoardy. There is also the chance Howard would not want to sign an extension making the trade a complete disaster. The Thunder would also be weak at the guard positions (however, drafting someone like Mack or Smith at 24 could solve that).
Why the Magic wouldn't do it:
This isn't a Carmelo situation as Howard hasn't demanded a trade. It is known he'd prefer to stay in Orlando, however he also said he would like the team to be a legit contender. Trading him could be a bad decision because there is the chance he would re-sign. Orlando is still a contending team, and if Arenas or Turkoglu could get to playing well they could very well be title contenders. Trading Howard would take that chance away and almost inevitably mean it would be time to rebuild.
Tell me what you think of this trade and also if I'm missing any main points.

We could take out Aldrich and make it a more balanced trade, however would the Magic accept it then?

What Mark Jackson will say during practice:
"Monta! Hand DOWN, Man DOWN!!"
"Andris, you're better than that!"
"Stephen Curry, father like son. Shooters aren't made they're born."
"David Lee! Yes! Now that is a grown man move right there!!"
"Dorell Wright, he's a knockdown shooter."
"Acie, Oooh, that should be against the law!"
"They just gotta come out and compete..."

Why wouldn’t the Thunder do it? They’re keeping Aldrich instead of throwing him in.

ummm....
no one cares about Aldrich. Come on, losing Westbrook without getting another top-pg is a no go.

You asked why the Thunder wouldn’t do it if they kept Aldrich, that makes no sense.

I...
meant with Westbrook in there, they wouldn’t do it. Should have made that clear I guess.

I'd do it...
…but only pending 100% assurance he would resign long-term in OKC. The league is becoming over-saturated with quality point guards. The Thunder are 10x as likely to stumble across the next Westbrook by complete accident than they are to ever cross paths with anyone even closely resembling Dwight Howard.
Exactly
if he wants to be here long term, I would do it in a heartbeat.
WE'RE DANCIN!!!
Yeah, that is the only way I would pull the trigger if I was OKC, if he was 100% he’d re-sign.
Finding a quality PG is so much easier than a legit center, or the best in the NBA should I say. The NBA has become a PG league with every team having a quality one, and I think we could pick up Nolan Smith or Darius Morris if we needed to.

Imagine Ibaka and Howard in the paint.
Yeah, I would do this. I love Westbrook but like everyone has said there are a lot of great point guards but Dwight Howard is so far above every other center in the league right now.
But yeah, we’d need a guarantee long term.
Imagine that starting five:
Maynor
Harden
Durant
Ibaka
Howard
That’s a lineup that nobody in the league has an answer for, especially if Ibaka continues his crazy progression.
We'd have to get nelson in return. Then that trade and line up looks better
Eric isn’t a starter
How the hell did that happen? I am Trailblazer fan to the core but I love me some OKC THunder!!! Must be the Hometown pride I feel.
I'll Say it now so you guys can know I'm a true follower: "In Pioli I Trust"
