Awesome Job Bench!
Our bench was huge tonight. James Harden, Eric Maynor and Nick Collison really stepped up tonight. Dirk still got his ,but our big guys stopped the fouling that haunted us the last game. The Thunder also did a great job of holding terry and barae to 19 points combined. That was a huge defensive stop for us. I felt like Kevin Durant really ignited us with that nasty dunk over Haywood. He showed the true passion of a leader tonight and his coming (if not here) greatness in this league. The only concern after this game is Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde (Russel Westbrook). Coach Brooks made the gutsy call of sitting him the whole 4th quarter. There are two reasons why I believe Brooks did this. First Maynor shot well and didn't turn the ball over so Brooks kept rolling with him. Second Westbrook started turning the ball over late in the game and it was to teach him a lesson. There are two ways Westbrook can respond to this. First option, he will show why he is a captain of this team and celebrate with his teammates, realize he made mistakes and learn from them. Or he will take the cry baby rout and hurt the team in this series. To me this is going to be a big defining moment in his career. What type of player will he choose to be? Keep a close eye on him moving forward. I'm hoping for the first option and I think that will be his choice. Put the team first Westbrook.

And we are the only ones not surprised...
I kept hearing about how deep the Mav’s bench was, and nobody thought much of ours.
That shows you just how little time the talking heads have to put together their stories. We, on the other hand, have the luxury of watching the Thunder play every game. So while the Mav’s may be surprised, we aren’t.
And Russell? Would we be here without him? Would we have won game 7 over Memphis without his amazing triple double? No……..
I am tired of everyone dissing Westbrook. Mainly because I don’t want the fans, and god forbid, Westbrook, to feel like he is not a beloved player. We would not be this strong of a team without Russell, no question. Not even close. But we have a lot of other weapons if a defense devotes its time to shutting down RW. And that is what they do. RW isn’t an All Star for nothing. He is the second, and sometimes first, strongest leg of a many legged team, if that makes any sense to everyone. We play as a team. And everyone can look back at the results of this year’s playoffs to see the ones who didn’t play utterly as a team. They are all watching TV.
And stop thinking about the future, for that matter. The future is right now. Every second. Sure, we are young and have a great future, but what happens if someone blows a knee?
Hail Westbrook. He is getting hammered by the media types who haven’t watched him play every game every year and seen what he has become. Really. Our opponents design whole defenses around stopping him or putting him into uncomfortable situations. KD is almost impossible to defend. So they go after RW. Which is fine by me.
I can see it as easily as other Thunder fans. We are a damn good team, and RW is a holy terror for defenses.
I agree and disagree at the same time.
Westbrook is very important and one of my favorite players on this team. His game 7 performance was amazing ,but he has had bad performances as well. The only problem I have with and the media pounts it out as well, is when he just dribbles the ball up the court and shoots. When he does that he doesn’t pass the ball to anybody else and only takes 4 seconds off the shot clock. That is a wasted possession. I give him a break most of the time because he is a young player and I think he will figure it all out at some point. I think the only thing the media are pushing to much is the relationship problem all of this creates between Westbrook and Durant. I think their personalities are perfect with each other. Westbrook is the vocal leader and Durant is the silent leader. Westbrook just has more growing up to do than Durant, but I do believe that will come with time. The media needs to give him a break there ,but they won’t because that is their job.

There's no headline story if Durant and Westbrook are fine and all
They do it in the hopes that it will cause rifts. Everybody loves a villain. Westbrook needs to be strong and overcome. The media tries this whenever there are two studs on one team.
Why don't you take a good look at yourself and describe what you see,
and baby, baby, baby, do you like it? - Plant
Agreed
They really do make more out of situations than what they really are.

Yep.
Go over to the Lakers blog. Bunch of wankers spending most of their time discussing which playstation game they are playing.
They totally freak out after every game. “Kobe is finished” (last year). Trade Pau!! (this year). They knee jerk after every game, including the regular season. Try trading stocks with that attitude. You have to be very patient.
My real fear is that RW will listen to the post game drama. Getting bogged down in dark emotions can kill a team. And that has always been our strength. We do this together.
Agreed
That’s hilarious about the Lakers blog. I agree, I am a little nervous how Westbrook handles all of the scrutiny. As I would be with any young player ,but he just needs to look at it as constructive criticism rather than negative. I’m glad he’s got a humble guy like Durant on the team to help him get through this.
