Offseason Free Agent addition Chris Bosh

Here is the wish of mine that Presti should take a close look at.

This year we lose the following 3 players to Free Agency

Matt Harpring - $6.5 million - Never will wear an OKC uniform, and already said he wants to be an announcer somewhere.  I'm assuming he retires after his last couple of surgeries.

Kevin Ollie - $1,306,455 - Retires and goes into coaching which he has already stated.  He was a great pickup for us and helped our young guards mature a lot in just a year, especially Westbrook.  Wish you the best Kev.

Etan Thomas - $7,350,000 - Great Depth move at the time and we had the cap room to eat up his last year of salary, much like the Harpring trade.  He is riding the bench now and I believe Ibaka is playing better right now and has much more upside and for a cheaper price.

So this free's up 15 million dollars going into next year and we still have another 15 on top of that to use.  So I say we go after Chris Bosh.  He will not score as many points with Durant being our go to guy but he would be a beast on the boards and give us the solid big man to become a title contender.  We already have the depth of big men on the roster to support him if he gets injured.  We do have 2 first round draft picks we could use but I don't see any real potential of growth in this years draft.  I say we use them to add depth at the guard and forward position.

These ideas are always far-fetched so be nice when commenting.

Sounds like

a really good idea to me. I remember reading a story about the disunity and lack of chemistry in Toronto. Add in a bunch of young, happy guys and a (newly) competitive team with lots of upside, and I think Bosh would love it here. I just hope we resist trading for him, and just pick him up in the offseason.

I think it depends on next years cap.

Everywhere I’ve seen indicates the cap is going to go down next year. If the soft cap is at 58 mil this year and best case it stays the same next year, that would leave 18 million to sign Bosh right since or does he meet an exception to exceed the soft cap?

I’m so stupid when it comes to the NBA salary cap.

Depends on whether

one trades for him and signs him to an extension or attempts to acquire him as a FA.

by manifestus on Feb 10, 2010 10:04 PM CST up reply actions

No

Bosh is a good piece but this team is being built around KD. This team cannot afford to give KD and Bosh max contracts and retain Westbrook, Green, and Harden, depending on the cap might not be able to keep any of them.

Team is being built around KD talent wise and contract wise.

exactly. go get a scola and haywood combo and you have low post scoring, and defensive center who rebounds/blocks shots.

if you guys get bosh

you can continue to offer contrcats to your own players even if exceding the cap

i agree with mleetch

don’t get me wrong though, i’d love bosh, but i would also hate to see the sacrifices made to acquire him… i say go for haywood as well.

by tron solo on Feb 10, 2010 10:41 AM CST reply actions

not really

that far-fetched at all, ive been hoping for the same thing. if we had Bosh getting grimy in the post, in a line up with KD, Westbrook and the others? Ohh, we would have the NW div. locked up every year.
sam presti is one of the top GMs in the game, definitely, but he seems very conservative with his moves, which tells me this probably wont go down.
here’s hoping, though, everyone have a good all star break! [0kc]

by Fakin on Feb 10, 2010 12:18 PM CST reply actions

he’s conservative with his moves b/c he doesn’t want to add any contracts that last past next season. any contract added is going to expire after next season. I’m sure they’ll explore all options but I doubt any moves are made until KD gets extended b/c max money is headed his way and this team cannot afford to pay 2 max contracts and re-sign the rest of the core.

by ThunderHorn on Feb 11, 2010 11:42 AM CST up reply actions

I like Bosh, the problem is he’s gonna want max money which makes it really tough to sign guys down the road like Harden, Westbrook, Ibaka, Maynor, Mullens….we know we cant keep them all as time goes along but id like to keep most. Presti is considered a wizard with the salary cap so maybe he is able to move some things around.

by Carey on Feb 10, 2010 12:27 PM CST reply actions

and he doesnt play D. if you watch this team the beauty of it is how they compete on the defensive end and help each other.

At this point a superior move

Would seem to be going out and grabbing someone like Scola. Bosh is yet another finesse oriented player, and one that pretty much plays pathetic defense. Not that he’d be the worst signing or anything, but … eh.

I think we will be the the David Lee sweepstakes

Why this summer instead of last summer?

No disrepect...

but I’ve kinda grown tired of all the Bosh talk. Not going to happen.

I’ve never seriously consider Scola because I don’t see Houston moving him. If that were to happen Scola would be an amazing addition.

by daddydai on Feb 11, 2010 7:43 AM CST reply actions

Well it'd be at least worth a shot to throw

out a contract offer to Scola to see if Houston is going to match it (probably) … And I second not talking too much more about Bosh. Not because it’s impossible, but mostly because the cost to benefit ratio seems a little skewed.

by manifestus on Feb 11, 2010 7:01 PM CST up reply actions

interesting

I think if they could do it without messing up what we have here already then I think it would be a good move. If not then I wouldn’t do it.

My top free agent picks

David Lee
Marcus camby
Joe Johnson ( just would love to have him on the team)
B Haywood
Joe Pryzbilla ( if he opts out and is healthy)
K Thomas ( yeah old but could be cheap)
Louis Scola( never happen)
anyone else is not too realistic

Haywood

yes he’s a free agent

Joe Johnson isn’t going anywhere and again he is going to command near max money. OKC cannot afford to have 2 max contract guys on their team. Lee is going to probably get offers close to 10 mil from some teams.

The other guys are likely targets.

If KD and Green get extensions quickly then we might see OKC make a play for Lee but even then I doubt it.

by ThunderHorn on Feb 12, 2010 11:24 AM CST up reply actions

Pryzbilla would be interesting if healthy and at the right price.

i like Bosh

he is from Dallas correct? So OKC is close to home. Plus he’d be with KD a guy loved by Texas. I could see it happening. Im more partial to getting Camby tho. I love the guy. Hell, just go out and get both.

straight honesty

this team does not need another big time talent until this squad can prove that they need it..let these kids play this season out before discussing any trades, this team is a monster just the way it is, and we finding out more and more as this season progresses.
