MY NEW FAVORITE TEAM... THE OKC THUNDER

Greetings all- I have decided to become a sports bigamist.  I'm of the train of thought that football is the only sport where you need to be a true loyalist- and I never  felt that a fan need be restricted to rooting for a team simply for geographic reasoning. I come in peace, to learn more about my new favorite team, the OKC Thunder. I am sperating, but not yet divorcing the Washington Bullets Wizards. Disclaimer, I will have no problem sleeping with them again if they go to the gym and start wearing a little makeup. But as a fan of this cursed and floundering franchise... I want to be able to root for a franchise that deserves my attention.  I've left them before, when they traded Chris Webber to Sacremento because they signed Juwan Howard to a ridiculous deal and handcuffed the franchise.  I returned to them post-MJ once they signed Gilbert Arenas. You all know what has happened to this squad since then. Robbed by the refs in the NBA's quest to annoint King James before his time (he's ready now, but we definitely outplayed them prior to our injuries), the life was sucked out of this franchise and the loser mentality seeped right back in.

Star-divide

So I only have to do it once (yeah right) I will say that I do have reasons to follow this squad. I was born in Oklahoma City, but didn't stay very long. During the mid-70's, the midwest wasn't as racially diverse as it is today and my folks quickly returned east to the DC area. I've been reared in PG County MD since early '77. OKC has two prominent members from 'my area' in Durant and Jeff Green... Green actually growing up right down the street from me and Durant just a couple miles away (although quite a few years after me). I'm sure you're aware of this area's rich b-ball tradition as it's put plenty of players in the league. I'll always root for players from my hometown, so this is an easy transition for me to go from casual observer to follower of the Thunder. Being a Wiz fan, our hatred for LeCryBaby  Lebron is very much justified, so it would thrill me to no end to see KD become the leagues top player. Plus, KD and I have the same initials so you have to love that-

Anyways, I just wanted to say hello to you fine folks and that I look forward to spending the rest of this season and many more lurking and contributing to your blog. Stay classy OKC-

i too

Was a webber enthusiast, at least until the kings were robbed in the 2002 western finals. I lost most interest in actually watching games. Just learned stuff here anf there from reading… But then the thunder came to town and are easily one of the most energetic and exciting teams that NO ONE gets to even watch. Glad to have you here man. You won’t regret the switch.

WHAT ARE US SAYING

u cant just leave your team because of whats going on,and look somewhere else. You have to stick by them through the good times and the bad. I should know,Im only young and i started supporting the Cs back when they were absolutly terrible and thats when they only had Paul Pierce to rely on. Remember their season (24 wins). Yeah, look at me now,im so proud of my team and ill keep supporting them until theirs a time when i can no longer like these REAL thunders did. They had stuck beside Seattle for years who were just like us and now they are becoming one of the most feared young teams in NBA!!dude,i think your real reason is because they are starting to get a good few Ws under their belt and most of them are under 25!!!

To thunder fans by the way, what a good season use our having, all youse really need now is a Veteran to come in and Help yous through the play-offs if use make it!!!

thats a ridiculous stance

to support a franchise that has no interest in providing you with a quality product.

If this was just simply a downturn in a franchise then I’d agree with you- you have to ride it out. But the Bullets franchise, over a 30 year period has down everything wrong. Everytime they appear to be making progress towards being perennial contenders, they do something to mess it up. Year after year, decade after decade.

The funny thing is, we’re talking about an owner who STOLE the franchise away from the faithful fans of Seattle

Maybe you need to expand your thought process. A fan of a team that has won the most championships in the history of the NBA, especially one your age— has no authority to even think about speaking on this topic.

Stick with your team...

That’s why most of us are here. The Sonics/Thunder had arguably only one year of happiness since the NBA Finals matchup against the Bulls in the early nineties. That means about 15ish years of heartache for us fans. You should stick it out, don’t give up on your team. We waited this long for a promising team, and unless your loyal falls with the Clippers/Browns/Pirates then I really don’t feel sorry for you.

get it right

there is no Sonics/Thunder. There is no one left on the roster from the days in Seattle. The ownership is different and jacked the franchise from the faithful diehard fans in Seattle. There is absolutely no correlation between the two cities.

And again, to act as if the Bullets franchise isn’t nearly on par with the Clips/Browns/Pirates— you don’t know the history of the team.

and it’s hilarious for any fan to think they can tell another who for and why they should be rooting.. as if there is a handbook. think less of thyself and thy opinions my friend.

? No one left on the roster from the days in Seattle?

Are you even paying attention to what YOU are saying:
Ex Sonics:
Nick Collison
Kevin Durant
Jeff Green
ring a bell?
How can you say there is no correlation? Have you lost a total connection with reality? Get your facts straight before you harp on me.
I am simply trying to help him stick with his team….wow end of discussion.
