Are the Thunder pursing Biedrins?
It seems that the Golden State Warriors are shopping Andris Biedrins. I've read several different comments on a few different site throughout the internet, but I could find a solid report stating that the Thunder is looking into acquiring Andris Biedrins via trade. Not that there really is any "solid" trade reports in the first place.
I've seen Jeff Green named mentioned with this possible trade. I've also heard of Mullens/White, Harpering, and Thomas mentioned as a combo deal. My thoughts are that Green is not moving. If I had to choose I'd package White, Harpering, and Thomas. I'm not even sure if draft picks are being mentioned. A word of caution is that Biedrins has been injury prone this past season. Plus he is apparently a horrible free throw shooter.
What have you guys heard? What do you think overall? Would you pull the trigger?

I like Biedrins
He’s an excellent rebounder and shot blocker. He would help us a lot against teams with dominating rebounders. I think a combo of him and Ibaka at C would give us a pretty tough defense in the paint. He’s missed his fair share of games to injuries but he’s young so I’d be willing to take the chance.
I don’t know if I’d give up Green for him though. Right now our offense is sputtering in big games and our defense is holding it’s own, trading away Green just makes it that much worse.
I’m not against giving up some expiring contracts and some prospects/draft picks though.
Being from the Bay area
Hes ok. Hes not worth trading for he wont bring the low post game that we need.
Biedrins is the defensive presence they need but back issues are always something that should scare people especially with a guy who signed for pretty big money for a number of years to come. No way you need to give up Green to get him.
Biedrins isn't that great of a defender
He’s a pretty good rebounder and decent on help defense … but didn’t look that great man to man … and in the short stints of watching him play he’s been clearly foul prone and terrible with rotations. Of course if it were just a pure salary dump then I’d start getting interested …
way to skip 90% of what i said, lol.

Not really, I just honed in on the first part
The rest I’m in total agreement, obviously. Methinks he’s a poor fit entirely since he’s pretty overrated defensively to boot.
Beans is not getting traded
He is the perfect guy to play center for them. If they were trading Biedrins, it would be for a lot more than what you mentioned. Why trade him?
CBS Sports’ Ken Berger is reporting that the Warriors may be looking to shop the four-year, $36 million dollar contract of Andris Biedrins, the Latvian center currently in his sixth NBA season.
Biedrins is still only 24 years old, and is a tremendous athlete, shot-blocker, and rebounder. He has an extremely limited skill-set offensively, but converts the opportunities he gets, and has always had a great field goal percentage.
He has missed significant time due to injury this season, and his minutes, scoring, and rebounding have all dropped from last season. The Warriors apparently don’t see him as a part of their future, and are looking for someone to take his contract off their hands. The Warriors have plenty of young talent on their squad, and are still searching for some way to turn that talent into a winning team. Some cap room could be a nice start, but the Warriors may need to go back to the drawing board and make some drastic changes on every level if they want to bring the playoffs back to the Oracle Arena.

More likely is Brendan Haywood
Haywood and DeShawn Stevenson for Dj White, Entan Thomas and a second round pick.
The Thunder need a big who is a good rebounder and defender. They would not have to give up much either.
too late...
Haywood, Butler and Stevenson were traded to dallas for Drew Gooden, James Singleton, Quinton Ross and Josh Howard… bummer.
If Haywood gets traded
then they will probably sign Jermaine O’neal. He is a good low post scorer and a terrific defender. A productive rebounder when healthy.
"They" being the Thunder?
I don’t think so. He is too old and Westbrook and Durant may just kick his @$$.

not to mention he has a contract.
they could sign Haywood in the summer, but more likely is Cuban will now overpay Haywood to keep him there.

Is Biedrins really a physical presence inside? Thats what the Thunder need. He’s not an intimidating defender inside.
If Green is part of the deal, Randolph better be headed back from Golden State.
biedrins isnt the best defender..
But he is a very solid rebounder which I would say is something we drastically need in order to make any sort of run… And to my knowledge, we have a pretty good inside defender in Ibaka… Could you imagine how many boards those two would get when on the court at the same time as well? But I agree, it would be tough to let green go pretty much just to increase our rebounds a bit…

i think w the Dallas move at best we are the 4th team in the West and i dont see them beating any of LA, Den or Dal in a series this year even if they make a move like Biedrins.
All this trade talk about Miami and Cle going after Amare and Jamison, could you imagine if both teams make those trades, get rid of young talent (Hickson, Beasley), take on the salary and Lebron and D-Wade decide they want to play together and both leave for NJ or something?

put them in NJ w lopez and john wall and u have a contender, worst to championship in a year, ha.

new biedrins rumor this morning was him and monta to bos for ray’s expiring deal, perkins and JR Giddens. boston gets younger and more explosive, but ellis needs the ball a lot and wont have it nearly as much on that team and biedrins is nowhere near the defender perkins is.
this would be a good move for GS if they truly want to rebuild as it clears 20 mil off their books and they get a solid C in Perkins who they could keep or trade off…I would love to add Perkins here even though he whines way too much about fouls he is one of the best low block man defenders in the game.
hmm
I would think GS wanted to build around ellis and curry, not trade them away for inferior talent. This would surprise me on their part… Unless of course there are unexplained off court issues with ellis…

don't get me wrong...
I love ray allen, but he has reached his peak and is on the way down… Not too big on perkins though. Quite frankly, I can’t stand the guy… I always find myself asking what the hell they see in scalabrine?
by tron solo on Feb 15, 2010 12:12 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
it’s not about building around ray, ray is an expiring huge contract that would let GS go after other talent in the offseason if they basically shed 20 mil from next year’s salary
by Michael Gleich on Feb 15, 2010 1:38 PM CST up reply actions
sorry
i meant, why would GS trade ellis, not, they plan to build around ray. i just felt sorta weird calling ray inferior.
i dont know that they should but very little of the moves nellie makes ever make sense. look at what steven jackson is doing for charlotte and they literally gave him away.

everyone has an attitude problem according to don nelson…very few of them are considered attitude problems when they go somewhere else. just saying.

it’s boston, they need a red-head who at least looks irish.

Perkins is arguably the best low post defender in the NBA
definitely a canidate for defensive player of the year.
I really do like Biedrins but he’s not a post threat, and he is a horrible free throw shooter….he’s athletic, you can pencil him in for double digit rebounds and a couple blocks, as well a guy who can get put backs and catch alleys, but you can really dump it in to him and say “get me a bucket”, at least i havent seen that part of his game yet. With 4 years and 36 million left on his deal im still deciding on whether this is a good move but if Presti does it then im with it. I trust him 100% and he is considered a salary cap guru.
I think Presti could get more for 9 mil
and I think he will wait, until he sees whats available and the development of his bigs.
From ESPN...
We just told you that the Blazers’ package for Marcus Camby included an additional $3 million in cash to the Clippers.
And according to Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, the Warriors may also go that route and ask for some money in return in any deal: “Warriors might go Clipper route: Include $3 million in your offer and Robert Rowell/Chris Cohan will talk about giving away anybody on roster, except Stephen Curry,”he tweets.
Earlier today, we talked about the Cavs potentially having interest in Maggette — even though there’s a chance it could only be in the interest of a three-team deal.
But if the Cavs were after Maggette, they could trade Zydrunas Ilgauskas’ expiring contract for him along with cash, provided the Warriors also include one more player with a smaller salary, as Ilgauskas is making too much money ($11.5 million) to be traded for Maggette ($8.9 million) straight up.
Maybe they could work something out for us? I wouldn’t mind Turiaf either.
Your friendly neighborhood Loud City resident.
turiaf, randolph for harp’s deal, white, 3 mil and maybe a pick?
by Michael Gleich on Feb 16, 2010 1:09 PM CST up reply actions
ellis
Warriors want to get rid of him, thats why they are even willing to package Randolph with him. The GM/Owner is allowing Nelson to control their team when he really just wants to be fired so he can go live in Hawaii and make guest appearances on ESPN’s NBA coverage.
They need to do whatever they can to get rid of Ellis and Maggette so they can build around Curry and Randolph.
If Biedrins wasn’t owned 9/mil for 5 more years I’d love to get him, as long as Randolph was included.
i would take ellis if we could get randolph but we would have to almost definitely give up harden or green to do it. i would also want them to take collison or kristic to at least save us 6 mil next year so we could maybe still go after a true center.
by Michael Gleich on Feb 16, 2010 3:58 PM CST up reply actions
maybe harden, kristic, harps contract for ellis, randolph. they save 3 years on ellis deal, get an outside 5 for nellie and a 2 guard to pair w curry. we get a guy who can score problem is he doesnt play D and what will he do to Russ’ offense and can he defer to KD without becoming a problem in the room. Randolph is the shot blocker we have been looking for though not a 5 body. I think of him like Josh Smith.
by Michael Gleich on Feb 16, 2010 4:05 PM CST up reply actions
hmm
I’m not sure if I want Ellis anywhere near this team. The entire problem with GS is that they drafted Curry to be their PG and Ellis wants to play the point. He’d wouldn’t be happy here with RW at PG. He’s a head-case.
I’d take Biedrins and Randolph though as they seem to be wanting to get rid of everyone on the team.
the problem with both biedrins and ellis is questions about length and money on deals as well as injury problems. taking a big guy with back problems is never ideal. the only guy i really want is Randolph question is what else they would have to swallow to get him.
i go back to turiaf, randolph for harp’s expiring, white/mullens and 3 mil bucks might get it done. they save 5-6 mil next year and get 3 mil now, might be worth it to them.
