Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

Durant is sitting at the 15th spot for the most popular NBA jersey. I imagine next year he will be in the top 10. Derrick Rose at 4, really?

Well

Chicago is the #3 media market in the U.S., and Rose was a #1 pick. A lot of Bulls fans think he can bring the franchise back to where it was during the ‘Jordan Era,’ so it’s not that big of a surprise.

When you add in the fact that a player who’s been with the same team is likely to see a decline in jersey sales, because people all ready own it, a new team jersey offering or a new number for a player will cause a surge in the ‘sales’ of that players’ jersey.

And right now OKC’s fan base is not as widespread as a lot of the teams (Lakers, Celtics, Knicks, 76ers) represented on that list, and he’s not as well known as others (Wade, Carmelo, Dwight, Paul, Shaq, Nash). But as he continues to flourish, his popularity will grow. No doubt about that.

I guess...

that all makes sense. Not knocking the guy, it’s just surprising to be all the way up at 4. Being over Wade was really surprising, but you’re right, everyone already has that jersey.

David Lee is above KD.

That shows how much a market can do for a player.
