Minor Weaver surgery and more on those 2nd rounders
USA Today (and others via the AP) report that Weaver just had surgery on his thumb:
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder say backup guard Kyle Weaver should be healed in time for training camp after having surgery on his left thumb.
Weaver tore the extensor tendon in his thumb during summer league and had surgery over the weekend to fix it.
Weaver averaged 5.3 points in 56 games, including 19 starts, for the Thunder last season as a rookie.
Probably not the biggest news, but there's not much else happening as of now as far as I could tell in my few minutes of searching. I'm sure Weaver was a tad annoyed, given that he needs to use the summer to get in as much quality practice time in to showcase himself for more minutes at both guard positions (or not) as Harden will no doubt eat into someone's SG minutes.
I'm sure most have you who cared already looked this up, but as far as the second round picks for the Etan Thomas trade, NewsOK has this:
The Thunder will receive the Wolves’ second-round pick in next year’s draft, and Minnesota will ship a 2010 conditional second-round pick to Oklahoma City. The Thunder will get the lesser of the second-round slots between Houston, Portland and Chicago.
The deal bumps Oklahoma City’s pick total in 2010 to five, including its own first- and second-round selections as well as Phoenix’s unprotected first-round pick.
That's going to be quite a bit of draft power next year, especially given that Phoenix's pick is probably going to be higher than they expected when they made that trade, and Minnesota's second rounder is likely going to be a very high second rounder.
Draft time next year is shaping up to be a serious blast.

People, people, people....
You guys have seriously got to stop overlooking the Suns roster. Don’t expect that pick to be in the lottery again, maybe not even close. Shaq is gone. Stat is in a contract year. Alvin Gentry is going to have them running and gunning again. While they may not be “serious” contenders (they still may be), they are still going to be way better than last year.
Even with such a “terrible” year they still won 46 games. That’s easily going to jump to at least 50. So I wouldn’t expect that pick to be any higher than the late late teens at best. NBA fans seem to be very short sighted sometimes.
I agree...
I don’t know how or when those picks will get dealt in some way, but they should be for sure. For one, we don’t have room for 5 drafts picks (I know just cause we pick them, it don’t mean they will be signed). Second, I don’t think the 2010 draft will be THAT deep. But then again we still have a whole college season to find out.
I agree but it's always nice to have high 2nd round picks
Good for picking up anyone who falls out of the 1st round — and great trade chips should something like that happen. They might be traded by Feb, but for now, it’s nice to have a few more of them.
