Durant or Oden--who do you take now?
Mr. Durant and Mr. Oden were practicing together for the Team USA stuff down in Vegas today. There have been several stories and videos surfacing about Oden recently, as he tries to make something of his career and not be a monumental failure.
Here's some video evidence of the practices.
Mr. Spears of Yahoo! Sports wrote this article about Oden.
It included this quote:
“They’re going to see a guy that can dominate on the court and change games,” Oden told Yahoo! Sports this week. “…They drafted me for a reason and I want to show them why they drafted me.”
Durant, on the other hand, does not have to endure questions about how good he will be. The only question he will face this off-season is whether he can help his team win more games and make the playoffs. So, going back to the 2007 NBA Draft, who would you choose at #1 if you knew then what you know now?

Durant needs to prove
he can play some defense as well as win some games.
Oden needs to prove he can stay on the court, (no more injuries or foul problems).
That said, I think you have to take Durant if what we saw last year is what we get from both players.
However as a Blazer Fan my heart says Oden, not because of what he did last year, but because of what I believe as a fan he will do this coming season.

the fact that there are more Blazer fans does not make this poll unfair
what’s unfair is that Blazer fan are biased and dishonest when polled.

I think BlazerSedge wins...
The NBA: Where amazingly bad officiating happens, is encouraged, and rewarded.
They will make their respective teams better in different ways.
Durant is a playmaker who can flat out score.
Oden is a defensive stopper with impeccable rebounding.
Durant was OKC’s #1, 2, and 3 scoring option last year.
Oden was Portland’s… 5th scoring option? And that’s being generous. He’s not really a scoring option, most of his offensive productive comes from O-boards and put backs.
So really, it’s apples to oranges. Durant gets the flash for scoring. Defense wins championships.
Take that for what it’s worth.

Greg Oden shot attempts rookie year: 5.7
Kevin Durant shot attempts rookie year: 17.1
Greg Oden minutes per game rookie year: 22.8
Kevin Durant minutes per game rookie year: 34.6
Kevin Durant averaged more shot attempts in his rookie year than Greg Oden’s career high attempts.

Oden will be a defensive stopper with impeccable rebounding
the moment he stops commiting stupidly rudimentary fouls. That said, he looks like a pretty good player — if he’d stop long enough to remain uninjured next year. Adding to the whole championship talk — being present and uninjured at the championship helps to win championships.
Is there even a discussion here?
Oden is not even the best option at Center on his own team. Taking what you know now, any team not choosing Durant would be idiotic. Particularly given Oden’s injury concerns and slow progression. However, if it were a redo of the decision back then, I’m sure most everyone would end up going for Oden. Since we get the benefit of retrospective decision making, DURANT.
Well....
A lot of people picked Greg Broke-den, good for the Blazers fans. Well the Thunder will stick with Durant. I thought the Blazers were making a mistake during that draft anyways.

why do bulls fans hate the blazers?
I think it’s because chicago was supposed to be the new hot upcoming team, but that kind of fizzled out. Now Portland is in that position and if it pans out for the blazers it would be like witnessing “what could have been.” ?
I really see no other reason for chicago fans to hate on portland, especially since there’s no rivalry and we’re in different conferences.
I do prophesize a rivalry developing between OKC and PDX though.
Old I-5 rivalry
young and promising talent for both franchises
oden vs. durant hype = media hype for the nba sure, but pretty rad for a true sports fan nonetheless
same division – for now anyways, hopefully that will change but that is neither here nor there.
supportive and knowledgable fan bases in each city
The next 10 years should be fun and produce a new rivalry, That’s fun for us.

LMA sucks.
No, really, he does. It’s not like Tyrus Thomas is any better, but LMA isn’t so hot. He’s got a lot of potential! I have a feeling that he’ll be shooting those 18-foot fadeaways for a long while, though. Yay inefficiency.
I don’t have much animosity towards the Blazers, but if I had any it would be because the Baby Bulls got mismanaged and crashed/burned/etc., while the Blazers are continuing their upwards trend.

Oh really?
You don’t average 18.1, 7.5, and 1.9 if you suck. Especially as the second option on a very good team.

Damn, you guys gots the internets over there?
Watch the video evidence of the USA practices linked to above. Oden and Durant look great, and Durant gets a couple nice blocks too, but that’s Probably because he’s wearing Greg Oden’s number. ODEN ALL DAY!!! You out there OKC? Here’s the same link http://www.iamatrailblazersfan.com/Home/Photos/OfficialGalleryAlbum/tabid/165/GalleryView/MediaView/AlbumID/5077/MediaID/2994/Default.aspx

98% to 1%????
C’mon OKC fans… Get your poop in a group and be happy you guys straught JACKED the Seattle Supersonics right out form under Seattle.
You all should be happy to have such a potential filled team. I have a feeling you are not far behind contenders of today.

ya
We are way behind in the pole, but in real life we are ahead because we have the better player. Although Blazers have the better team, so now I’m just confused. But, could you imagine your team with Durant?
I would have to say Durant would be the number one in 2007 if people knew Oden was going to go through injury trouble. Durant is just a lethal scoring machine. If he ever learns how to play defense he will be mentioned for MVP in a couple years.
But without the knowledge we have today, Oden was by far the right pick in the 2007 draft. Scoring wins regular season games, Defense wins championships. I think we all know who the better defender of the two is.

And yet
Oden is stuck behind Przybilla. And can’t stay out of foul trouble when he IS on the court. That is when he isn’t hobbled and actually makes it onto the court. But I digress. =P

Seriously??
“there are more Blogging Blazer Fans than there are computers in OKC…”
Oh yes, Oregon is a virtual metropolis.
Yeah that was kind of a stupid statement.
Not that it matters but if you look at the numbers the population of the Portland metro area(2,159,720) is nearly double that of OKC’s metro area(1,262,027)
Blazersedge mods suck
Dont mistake what I meant
Oregon is absolutely beautiful. Oklahoma and Oregon are about even as population goes. Which is why I found that statement funny.
Oklahoma – 3.6 million
Oregon – 3.7 million
Even at the time
I thought Durant was the better pick. Big men are built to break down. Oden had already suffered some injuries. I knew it would be a matter of time before he turned into Bill Walton. I just didn’t think it would be before he ever played his first pro game.

Durant will surpass Dwade!
I firmly believe that Kevin Durant in just a year or 2’s time, will surpass Dwayne Wade as an elite scorer in this league, the guy scores way too easily in a system that is ..well…all messed up at the moment and still trying to “find itself” so to speak.
Kevin Durant is like a diamond in the rough just waiting for a chance to show it’s brilliance, he is like an eagle perched up in it’s nest ready to swoop down on it’s prey, he is like a lion waiting in the bush, ready to pounce on it’s unsuspecting victim, he is like a storm brewing on the horizon, you can feel it coming and you can even see the signs of the chaos, but all you can do is sit there and be in awe of this spectacle.
World, just be ready to embrace the biggest thing ever to come to Oklahoma City, everyone is on the verge of jumping on your bandwagon Thunder fans, take pride in your star in the sky.
