Debate over; Gortat agrees to sign with Dallas

via.

Seems like an odd move to me, especially if Dallas offered him less than the full MLE. Even if he was offered the full mid-level, seems like it'd be prudent to see if any other teams would be willing to offer the same or if OKC was willing to offer a bit more. I really really wanted Gortat for this team, but I wish him the best on the Mavs. Can't win every battle, blah blah blah; come on down Paul Millsap!

This post does not reflect the views of the staff of Welcome to Loud City or SB Nation. However, it was made by one of the members of the Welcome to Loud City community, so there is a large chance the above post is extremely ballin'!

Gortat joins a Mavs team immediately in playoff contention

Which is probably part of the incentive. And ESPN is reporting that the Mavs appear to have offered the full MLE of 5.6 million @ 5 years, which would be a commitment of ~28 milion over the life of the deal.

$5.6 isn't bad.

Seems like he’d have a better chance of getting more playing time on the Thunder though, no? Or is Dampier pretty much done. I don’t think much of Kristic personally.

It is kind of hard...

to think he would settle for MLE with all the attention he is getting. Oh, well.

So...

is this official?

I mean, I know they can’t sign until next week, but is it in official commitment? Orlando can still make a counteroffer.

True.

Plus what is a verbal commitment worth? I think if the Thunder offer him $6.5M he’d take it.

I know

I would.

Actually, do you think the Thunder would have any interest in an obese, 6’4" guy with bad knees to play the 5 spot?

Looks like

Orlando is keeping Gortat.
