Thunder Trade for Eric Maynor

I talked about this in the game thread, but figured a fan post was more than appropriate for a move like this.  Leading up to the draft those of you who were involved in all those conversations we had about it know that i was very big on us finding a way to get Eric Maynor (EM3) with our later pick in the 1st round.  At the time I thought he was as prepared as any point guard in the draft to run a team, especially in the half court setting.  I did not think Jennings was going to be the level he is so far, but he has been very good at running that club.  Tyreke for me is more of a 2 than a 1 and that is why his game took off after Kevin Martin went down, but enough about other guys in the draft.  Eric Maynor to this point has been getting up and down minutes for Jerry Sloan and the Jazz.  He is averaging 14 min a night with 5.2 pts, 3.1 A and 1.5 rebs along w .5 stls.

Obviously he is not going to start here with RW0, but in his two starts this year when D-Will was gone he had one game of 13pts 11A 4reb @Phi and the other was 24 pts 4A 3 reb @CLE.  I believe for us he should be able to get 16-20 min a game and give us around 8-10 pts 5A 2rebs and 1 stl.

A little more about Maynor's game.  His best move in college was to break a defender down off the dribble and hit a pull up floater in the lane.  He is very good at the drive and kick and should easily be able to run a pick and roll game with say Jeff or KD.  He will play on the defensive end of the floor.  The biggest knock on him other than pure athleticism is his weight.  He needs to add probably 10-15 pounds, but he has the mind and the game to play in the NBA and start, but for us we have the luxury of him being a backup pt guard. He should mesh very well with Harden on the "2nd unit" as they both play more of an old school type game based on thinking the game more than pure athletic talent.  As Chris Webber and Kevin McHale would call it, "old man" game.

Another great move by Presti, maybe even better than the one for Thabo last year mid season because with this one we didnt even give up a pick, just took on the contract of Harpring.  Yet another added bonus which will come in play more in a year or two is that by trading for maynor who is an up and coming point, but also a 1st round pick, he is locked up at a cheap salary for the next four years at salaries of 1.3 this year, 1.4 next, 1.5 and 2.3 the following two years, so we keep stockpiling cheap talent locked up for years to come.

This post does not reflect the views of the staff of Welcome to Loud City or SB Nation. However, it was made by one of the members of the Welcome to Loud City community, so there is a large chance the above post is extremely ballin'!

Lost...

in my original dismay of losing Livingston is that we just got a pretty dang good player for basically nothing. Kudos to Presti.

As a Jazz fan, all I can say is

you’re welcome. (You win, and we just lost our capable back-up PG.)

Anyone know anything about Peter Fehse? ;)

he is 6’ 11" and never coming the US.

http://www.thedraftreview.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=945&Itemid=5

that is what they said about him around the draft. I believe he plays in Germany now, but that’s all i know. i am sorry your team did this to it’s fan base, but i am happy that we were the ones that got the gift.

do jazz fans think this means a bigger trade is coming or that they are going to re-sign Boozer because right now those seem like the only ways to justify a purely money move like this. i mean they didnt even get like a 2nd round pick.

Can't speak for all fans...

but I really hope there’s another trade coming.
I really don’t see resigning Boozer being the option, since we already have a couple of overpaid bigs (Okur, ’Sap). But you never know with our front-office… after all, they kept Jarron Collins around year after year, and just traded our back-up PG for nothing.

Not to mention we traded a solid trading chip (Harpring’s expiring contract) for nothing. Literally.

I'd agree with you

I really do hope that Jazz management didn’t just screw their fans and their team over.

whats the deal on Harpring?

is he going to end up playing for us and is this a good bye to Livingston?

by rockchalks7 on Dec 23, 2009 3:13 PM CST reply actions

harpring is not going to play, but he is a valuable trade chip if they want to use it later.

i guess they chose to keep ollie over livingston which from a game standpoint doesnt make a whole lot of sense, but maybe they think the mentoring ollie can do is more valuable long term. I dont know about that with Brooks and Cheeks already on the bench, but that seems to have been the choice. for livingston himself it might be better this way because if he wasnt going to play better to try and find a team where he can get some minutes heading into FA this summer.

ok

um just another ball handler….cool…however not much of a difference maker
we do however need some big bodies around the basket, like i said before “get Gortat”

Gortat is so not the answer. he is not worth his contract and doesnt provide anything that Ibaka isnt doing right now. Do they need another big, of course, but Gortat is not the answer.

that said i want nothing to do with a player like Bosh either who doesnt defend or even attempt on the defensive end. he is a great offensive player and gets his numbers but he is not a winning type player.

I was thinking about this offseason and all the money we have. I would love to snag a Luis Scola as a back to the basket post player who rebounds and brings great toughness. Also a Camby for a year or 2 would be great in terms of mentoring Ibaka and Mullens while providing rebounding and shot blocking. One other one who i never thought i would advocate for but he has played very solid ball this year is Brendan Haywood. getting 10, 10 and 2.5 on that team where they never give him the ball is impressive, but i wouldnt go more than 2-3 years with him either. All of these ideas obviously depend on how Jeff continues to progress and the development of Ibaka and Mullens to a lesser extent.

If we were to make a trade this year it would either be for a true center where maybe the clips were trying to dump Kaman or I wouldnt mind a different Orlando player in Brandon Bass. Bass is a little undersized and obviously cant play the 5, but he competes hard, plays tough D and when given chances produces. Playing him and Ibaka together off the bench would be great energy and hustle. Also Bass is locked up “cheap” at 4 mil per for at least 2 years w the last year of his 4 year deal being a player option.

Presti is amazing!

We need not worry about who we should pick up, Presti will guide us to the promise land.

love this deal!!

EM3 will be a great backup to RWO on the cheap…Presti has really impressed me. this guy better get a raise, definitely one of the best in the league at what he does…as long as we open up the wallet come time for Durant we have a contender for years to come in the making…
