Is the Future Now?

Just throwing this out for another round of discussions...

Before the season started, the consensus opinion here was that we have a great young core group of players, and while we definitely hoped for improvement, we were content to wait and let the team mature and make a run at the playoffs next season.

However, we're just over 25% done with the season OKC has 12 wins (a feat which I don't think they achieved until February last season) and as of today, sit in the 9th playoff spot in the West. (They would be the 5th seed in the East right now, a game ahead of Miami.) Wins against Orlando, San Antonio, Miami and Utah, the last 3 of those on the road, as well as the overtime game against the Lakers, proves the team can play with anyone on any given night.

So, the question I'm putting forth is this...is it time to trade for a legit center?

The Thunder have two 1st rounders and three 2nd rounders in the upcoming draft. Clearly, we don't need 5 more youngsters on the roster. We also have a plethora of power forwards to use as trade bait.

Three options:

1. Marcin Gortat: A big guy who plays behind Howard in Orlando. You have to think the only reason the Magic retained him is because they didn't want to lose him and get nothing in return.

2. Marcus Camby: A veteran leader who is having a great year. (Ric Bucher told me the trade is a possibility, but his conversations with OKC indicate it's not a strong one right now.)

3. Chris Bosh: Bosh is a free agent next year, and I've read in a few places his name mentioned with the Thunder, so why not give Toronto a package and bring him in now?

Thoughts? Other scenarios?

If...

Bosh did a sign and trade, I’d say do it.

bosh with a sign and trade would be perfect ....

but those rarely happen mid season ….. i would also add Brandon Bass to the list ….and my choice would be either Bass or Bosh ….. the latter preferred for maybe out second 1st collinson and a 2nd …. giving Toronto a good expiring contract …. you have to think Presti will use that ending contract this year before the deadline….

How the hell did that happen? I am Trailblazer fan to the core but I love me some OKC THunder!!! Must be the Hometown pride I feel.

Gortat

Would be a good match to play on this Thunder team.

What about that kid in Oakland?

I’ve seen in a few places where Anthony Randolph is on the block…I have to think he would be the best option…Granted, I haven’t seen the kid play even once, but from everything I’ve read, the shy is the limit for this kid…Now you might say that we already have a young big man in Ibaka, but I dare say Randolph, while still raw, is far more polished than Ibaka at this point…Again, all this is based merely on what I’ve read from other people’s opinions…This, combined with the lower of the 1st round picks we have and the highest of the 2nd round picks we have should be a pretty good deal…

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yg8vttw

Claxton would be a good veteran PG, which seem to be dropping like flies on this team…If he is even playing…He is an expiring contract regardless….Randolph would be replacing Krstic…and Golden State gets two PF in return to replace Randolph…One a young banger and the second, with a decent mid-range game….

Does this trade make any sense to anyone else?..Anyone else have any thoughts on Randolph?..I know technically he is a PF, but at 6’10 or 6’11, that has never stopped us before….So what do you all think?

the kid is only 20….that’s the capper in my opinion

I hear that the reason he is on the block Is b

Because he is a lockerroom distraction

If we are gonn get a youg guy with upside

We might as well go through the draft ….. I would much preferr a cat already established as a team’s secondary scoring weapon ….

Sign and trade for Bosh

Or put together a huge package with one one or more of our plethora of forward prospects, a slew of picks, and everything else that isn’t integral to the core (e.g. not Thabo, Harden, KD, or Westbrook) and snag an mobile/athletic center.

Otherwise throw a max contract at Bosh come the off season and roll the dice on that whilst trying to snag some lightning in the bottle with whatever center prospects fall to us in the draft.

We do need a quality center...

But we must not rush to make a move for a mediocre center. We need to be smart and patient and get the best center available-period. I think that means waiting for the off-season and waiting for the right deal. I would take Bosh over Camby or Gortat because he is younger and more versatile. Contrary to popular belief, there are still some talented centers out there because some teams now even have more than one although this is rare. But let’s not limit ourselves to where we look. And it is obvious that we won’t be able to make it past the first round of the playoffs without a true force at the center position.

The point of taking Bosh

Would be to slot him at PF not at Center. At least that was my thinking …
