Gameflow versus the Lakers: Rockets and Thunder

The Gameflow charts that you can find on PopcornMachine provide a nice visual layout/summary of a game. While the practical uses are kind of limited, it's still fun to look at. Here we have two charts, with back-to-back games played by the Lakers against the Thunder and the Rockets. This is made more interesting given that both games were pretty close, the Lakers were the common denominator/opponent, and we have the Rockets as the upcoming opponent. Whereas the Thunder were down early and clawed their way back into the game (and kept it tensely close for the remainder of the evening), the Rockets ... didn't really do that. The cursory visual differences in the charts for the fourth quarter are probably the most interesting (well, to me at least). Anyhow, for those of you who haven't had a chance to check out the charts, they're quite fun to waste time on so peruse them at your leisure.

Against the Rocket...

it looks like LA dominated for the majority of the night. Then Houston made a good effort at the end of the 4th. I’d say Houston’s experience and coaching will make them a difficult opponet tonight.

Actually if I'm not totally wrong ...

It would be somewhat of the exact opposite. You’re looking at the back and forth movement of game flow, with substantial runs noted in the margins. Houston basically screwed up in the 4th — they started well by building up their lead, but proceeded to give it all back over the next 2/3 or so of the quarter … and then the end just went all crazy. For the majority of the game however the Rockets were somewhat-soundly holding on to the lead (except for the early part of the 2nd quarter and the tail end of the 3rd).

Whereas in the case of OKC, we were losing by a fair margin until we pulled it close at halftime. The subsequent flatline of the gameflow chart shows how close the game was from the 3rd period onward.

But yeah, the graphs are kind of fun visuals but that’s sort of all they provide. Houston will be an interesting matchup though.

Your right. I misread the graphs.

must of been too early in the morning for me to comment.
