Contract Extensions

Obviously other than Thabo we wont have any contracts to extend until the offseason, but it is always interesting to look around the league and see how some of these extensions are going and the dollars that are being given out considering in the next 12 months we will have to give KD and Jeff new deals and a year later it will be Russ' turn.  Today Rajon Rondo got 5 years and 55 million from the Celtics and while he is a nice player, i think that is just way too much money for him.  He benefits immensely from playing with Pierce, KG and Ray and we all know that within the next two years KG and Ray will probably be gone and they are going to be paying Rondo like a top 5 pg.  The other deal that is being talked about is Rudy Gay and Memphis where Gay wants 5/60 and Memphis doesnt want to go beyond 5/50.  Personally the 5/55 that Rondo got wouldnt be a bad deal for Memphis though if I was Gay he might be better off trying to go shorter and get 3/33 or 3/36.

We all know that Presti is going to give KD max money as he should so that is not up for question.  These deals do however in some ways bring up the value and money that should be paid to Jeff and Russ in the next two years.  I have always believed that Jeff should get something like what Millsap ended up with which was 4/32, 5/40, basically 8 mil a year.  Russ is more confusing for me to put a number on because I see the flashes of the great player he can become and then I see the flipside of how much growth is left to be done.  The comparables that comes to mind would be Mo Williams 6/51.5 and Devin Harris 5/42.6 which would put Russ at 8.5-9 mil a year.  Obviously people will disagree on both sides as to whether it is too much or too little, but have at it.

will get around 4/44 but not a five year deal …. i agree Uncle Jeff is a 8 mil/year player and that is about right ….. considering we end up with a not so all star caliber PF that we would need to drop 5/50 for… or 3/27 for…. i preferre the latter considering we may not know if they like the culture we are growing here in OKC…. i would take two 8-9 mil players over another max contract player any day … more depth

How the hell did that happen? I am Trailblazer fan to the core but I love me some OKC THunder!!! Must be the Hometown pride I feel.

russ would have to take some huge strides for me to believe he is worth 11 mil a year.

This is more of an issue

of not bothering to think about it until the time comes. If Jeff improves, the numbers change. If he stays as is, the numbers change. If he starts doing worse, then the numbers change. What sorts of options will come our way? Will it be worth more to keep Ibaka around at that juncture and let Jeff go? Will it be better to pick up a stronger, bigger PF? Or will Jeff be the fixture? Is he the 6th man or the starting PF?

In short, there’s a lot of questions to answer before we even start to think about how much money he’s worth.

i think those questions alone help to determine how much he is worth

very solid but not a game changer

I would say

give Westbrook a five year deal
first year 5 mil
second year 6 mil
third year 7 mil
fourth year 8 mil
fifth year 9 or 10 mil
5 year 36 million sounds like a really good deal to me
If he does not accept 5 year 40 mil even that is a fair deal to me
Green should get a 3 year 21 mil deal
Durant gets 10-12 mil a year 3-5 years
