What luck... Chris Paul is injured.
Chris Paul is still loved by many Oklahomans. Why not? He won his rookie of the year campaign while playing in OKC. Paul still participated in local basketball camps even after his team left town. Oh, and his is widely considered to be the best point guard in the league (if not this decade). So please excuse me while I lament of the sad state of the Hornets.
So now the Hornets are literally falling apart before our eyes. Paul favorite alley-oop recipient got dished to another team. Concerning Byron Scott firing, "Chris is heartbroken and he’s angry," a source close to him said Thursday. "Byron is the only coach he’s known in the pros, and he’s practically in mourning right now. The only thing that made this worse for him was that [Jeff] Bower took over.
But now Paul gets injured in his first game without "his" coach.
New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul is expected to miss one to two weeks after spraining his left ankle during the team’s loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, NBA sources said Friday night.
Paul injured the ankle when he appeared to land on Blazers center Joel Przybilla in the third quarter. After clutching his ankle in pain, Paul was eventually helped off the court and to the locker room by his teammates.
Paul’s injury was the latest setback for the Hornets, who fired Byron Scott as coach on Thursday and replaced him with general manager Jeff Bower. Paul had grown close to Scott and was upset by his dismissal.
The Hornets struggled offensively against the Trail Blazers, and Paul clearly grew frustrated during the 86-78 loss. He barked at teammates and coaches in the huddle during one timeout shortly before he was injured.
The loss dropped the Hornets to 3-7. If Paul is sidelined for two weeks, he could miss as many as six games. The Hornets next play Saturday in Atlanta.
After everything the Hornets have been through, I'm sure more than Paul's ankle is injured.
