Dividing up those minutes!

BlueBlitz had this to say about the preseason game:

There was absolutely no show of life from the two off-season acquisitions that played tonight, Ryan Bowen and Etan Thomas. Thomas had 4 Points, 1 Rebound, and 1 Steal in 17 minutes, and Bowen missed 2 shots, grabbed 3 rebounds, and got a block in over 21 minutes of action. I really hope that we don't end up giving either of these guys heavy minutes, though I do hope Thomas (an experienced poet) will write a new Thunder Ad Campaign. Thunder Up? Comeon.

Which is an interesting consideration. What role are the acquired veteran players playing on this team? Are we asking them to just act as mentors and pass on that knowledge or provide some actual punch off the bench? Should we be playing the Ibaka's and White's more to allow them to get more playing time and experience, or do these other acquisitions deserve any sort of minutes on the floor?

It's easy to play armchair coach here, but I really don't see the value if that's the sort of production we're looking forward to -- and all signs point to it being just about so (the production, or rather the lack of). I guess the question really comes back to this: How do these potentially washed out veterans offer? Are we looking for the veteran experience, teaching, and leadership? Should the youngsters be given more time over these guys?

At this time...

it’s my opinion that more playing time goes to the kids and the older guys serve as mentors.

We’re not going to evolve into a team where Etan Thomas is a cornerstone. The younger players will get better by playing, so let them play.

I couldn't agree more...

the vets don’t really need much playing time. Lets find out if the youngsters can play. If they can’t ship em out just like Rob “big-tall-stiff-redhead” swift.

I’m fine with Thomas getting minutes. He should be given the chance to compete for the starting spot. I don’t see Bowen making the team. So his minutes should be limited, and probably would be if Sefolosha didn’t get clotheslined with an elbow last monday.

Would love to see Thomas in a Danny Fortson role, elbows to the chin, taking guys mentally out of games. These guys make cash, let em take a bruises from the poet.

I even doubt Thomas will be on the team after November

Doesn’t his contract expire? I see presti making some great trades before this deadline!!! So in terms of mins I doubt Thomas gets many….. Damn he is slow as hell!!! Lol I really do believe we have a star PF By the end of the year not named jeff green…. He will stay as a great bench player splitting mins with that new PF We also keep collinson and he plays mostly backup C mins to help a mre improved special K

How the hell did that happen? I am Trailblazer fan to the core but I love me some OKC THunder!!! Must be the Hometown pride I feel.

I think the thunder should....

not play bowen anything more than 12 minutes a night he sux
Play Etan 15-17
Play DJ a lot more maybe 20-25 I see a lot of potential in him
play Harden 20-27 or something like that or start him because he is way better than Thabo

Thabo is a role player not a starter
Play Livingston 20 a night because he has a lot of potential and Westbrook shouldn’t be overplayed.

I'm in eighth grade give me a break
